Visual Intelligence Book Summary : An engrossing guide to seeing—and communicating—more clearly from the groundbreaking course that helps FBI agents, cops, CEOs, ER docs, and others save money, reputations, and lives. How could looking at Monet’s water lily paintings help save your company millions? How can checking out people’s footwear foil a terrorist attack? How can your choice of adjective win an argument, calm your kid, or catch a thief? In her celebrated seminar, the Art of Perception, art historian Amy Herman has trained experts from many fields how to perceive and communicate better. By showing people how to look closely at images, she helps them hone their “visual intelligence,” a set of skills we all possess but few of us know how to use properly. She has spent more than a decade teaching doctors to observe patients instead of their charts, helping police officers separate facts from opinions when investigating a crime, and training professionals from the FBI, the State Department, Fortune 500 companies, and the military to recognize the most pertinent and useful information. Her lessons highlight far more than the physical objects you may be missing; they teach you how to recognize the talents, opportunities, and dangers that surround you every day. Whether you want to be more effective on the job, more empathetic toward your loved ones, or more alert to the trove of possibilities and threats all around us, this book will show you how to see what matters most to you more clearly than ever before. Please note: this ebook contains full-color art reproductions and photographs, and color is at times essential to the observation and analysis skills discussed in the text. For the best reading experience, this ebook should be viewed on a color device.

Visual Intelligence for Beginners Book Summary : A Complete and Comprehensive Guide to enhancing your perceptive abilities and improving your logical reasoning/communication skills Find out exactly how to boost your Visual Intelligence Specifically written for both experts and novices, this book offers a thorough guide into the concept of visual intelligence. Visual-spatial intelligence, which is also largely referred to as spatial skill or ability is the capability to appreciate, fathom and recall the four-dimensional relationships between spaces and objects. It is also one of the nine classes of multiple intelligences that experts in the field of clinical psychology have studied and developed over the past fifty years. Visual- spatial intelligence is founded on the appreciation of the environment through accurate interpretations and interactions between objects within that space and the space they are in itself. This book points out the general characteristics of visual-spatial intelligence, how individuals with such skill perceive, assimilate and process information. It also explains the approach to how the skill is nurtured and effectively managed for a better life and society. All you need to Know While there are quite a lot of systems that have being explored by experts in the field of human psychology, Visual intelligence has proven to be a powerful tool that is applicable to all areas of human life. This singular attribute fosters success in certain fields and has been proven to be a valuable assets across several careers/professions. This book covers clear cut definitions and description of visual-spatial intelligence, its dynamisms and how it is perceived in society. The one-sides and ineffectual methods adopted by conventional education systems don't do any good for visual-spatial learners; so, must we must find the best ways to teach pupils with such gifts. The general idea that learning is effective, no matter the individual being taught is completely inaccurate; this book points to how specific methods ought to be adopted in order to enhance teaching and accelerated learning in those with visual-spatial intelligence. Here, we thoroughly explore the differences between Visual Spatial Intelligence and visual-spatial learning styles. While the latter is a latent ability that exists naturally and should be enhanced to better one's life, the former is a preferred method of learning usually adopted by the individual in question in order to enhance learning. This means that individuals with such skills can learn using other methods and are not limited to just spatial techniques of information assimilation. Visual Intelligence is a powerful tool that not only helps you become a better communicator and learner but also improves your quality of life as you navigate your environment daily. Get started now and discover exactly how to boost your visual intelligence.

Wicked Intelligence Book Summary : In late seventeenth-century London, the most provocative images were produced not by artists, but by scientists. Magnified fly-eyes drawn with the aid of microscopes, apparitions cast on laboratory walls by projection machines, cut-paper figures revealing the “exact proportions” of sea monsters—all were created by members of the Royal Society of London, the leading institutional platform of the early Scientific Revolution. Wicked Intelligence reveals that these natural philosophers shaped Restoration London’s emergent artistic cultures by forging collaborations with court painters, penning art theory, and designing triumphs of baroque architecture such as St Paul’s Cathedral. Matthew C. Hunter brings to life this archive of experimental-philosophical visualization and the deft cunning that was required to manage such difficult research. Offering an innovative approach to the scientific image-making of the time, he demonstrates how the Restoration project of synthesizing experimental images into scientific knowledge, as practiced by Royal Society leaders Robert Hooke and Christopher Wren, might be called “wicked intelligence.” Hunter uses episodes involving specific visual practices—for instance, concocting a lethal amalgam of wax, steel, and sulfuric acid to produce an active model of a comet—to explore how Hooke, Wren, and their colleagues devised representational modes that aided their experiments. Ultimately, Hunter argues, the craft and craftiness of experimental visual practice both promoted and menaced the artistic traditions on which they drew, turning the Royal Society projects into objects of suspicion in Enlightenment England. The first book to use the physical evidence of Royal Society experiments to produce forensic evaluations of how scientific knowledge was generated, Wicked Intelligence rethinks the parameters of visual art, experimental philosophy, and architecture at the cusp of Britain’s imperial power and artistic efflorescence.

Interpretable Representation Learning for Visual Intelligence Book Summary : Recent progress of deep neural networks in computer vision and machine learning has enabled transformative applications across robotics, healthcare, and security. However, despite the superior performance of the deep neural networks, it remains challenging to understand their inner workings and explain their output predictions. This thesis investigates several novel approaches for opening up the “black box” of neural networks used in visual recognition tasks and understanding their inner working mechanism. I first show that objects and other meaningful concepts emerge as a consequence of recognizing scenes. A network dissection approach is further introduced to automatically identify the internal units as the emergent concept detectors and quantify their interpretability. Then I describe an approach that can efficiently explain the output prediction for any given image. It sheds light on the decision-making process of the networks and why the predictions succeed or fail. Finally, I show some ongoing efforts toward learning efficient and interpretable deep representations for video event understanding and some future directions.

On Intelligence Book Summary : From the inventor of the PalmPilot comes a new and compelling theory of intelligence, brain function, and the future of intelligent machines Jeff Hawkins, the man who created the PalmPilot, Treo smart phone, and other handheld devices, has reshaped our relationship to computers. Now he stands ready to revolutionize both neuroscience and computing in one stroke, with a new understanding of intelligence itself. Hawkins develops a powerful theory of how the human brain works, explaining why computers are not intelligent and how, based on this new theory, we can finally build intelligent machines. The brain is not a computer, but a memory system that stores experiences in a way that reflects the true structure of the world, remembering sequences of events and their nested relationships and making predictions based on those memories. It is this memory-prediction system that forms the basis of intelligence, perception, creativity, and even consciousness. In an engaging style that will captivate audiences from the merely curious to the professional scientist, Hawkins shows how a clear understanding of how the brain works will make it possible for us to build intelligent machines, in silicon, that will exceed our human ability in surprising ways. Written with acclaimed science writer Sandra Blakeslee, On Intelligence promises to completely transfigure the possibilities of the technology age. It is a landmark book in its scope and clarity.
