Perfectly Clear Book Summary : The revelatory memoir by former "poster girl for Scientology" Michelle LeClair about her defection from the Church, her newly accepted sexual identity, and the lengths to which Scientology went to silence it. For years, Michelle LeClair, former President of Scientology's international humanitarian organization, tried to reconcile her sexual orientation with the anti-gay ideology of the church. Michelle finally ends her horrific marriage, finds the love of her life, a woman, and ultimately leaves the Church. But the split comes at a terrible price. Her once pristine reputation is publicly dragged through the mud, the police raid her home, her ex-husband tries to gain full custody of their children, and the multi-million dollar business she built from scratch is utterly destroyed. In this tell-all memoir, Michelle offers an insider's perspective on Scientology's pervasive influence, secret rituals, and ruthless practices for keeping members in line. It's a story of self-acceptance, of finding the strength and courage to stand up for your emotional freedom, and of love prevailing.

The Kansas Home Cook-Book
Author: Ladies of Leavenworth
Publisher: Andrews McMeel Publishing
Release Date: 2013-07-16
ISBN 10: 1449432034
Pages: 312 pages

The Kansas Home Cook-Book Book Summary : Published in 1874 in Leavenworth, Kansas, during the post-Civil War charity cookbook boom, The Kansas Home Cook-Book is a fascinating, genuine example of how women during this time were able to express their political influence through sales of cookbook collections. Besides the fund-raising that the cookbook provided, this culinary collection showcases the cooking talents of local women, what was common fare during the time period, and the local community opinions and prejudices. Each recipe is individually attributed and adds to the personal tone of the collection, which includes recipes with a Midwestern influence, such as Mrs. Elvira Burr’s Strawberry Short Cake, Prairie Chicken and Buckwheat Griddle Cakes, and Mrs. C. Foster’s Breakfast Rolls. With its special historical context and authentic local recipes, The Kansas Home Cook-Book is regional book in its origins, but it has modern-day appeal throughout the country. This edition of The Kansas Home Cook-Book was reproduced by permission from the volume in the collection of the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Massachusetts. Founded in 1812 by Isaiah Thomas, a Revolutionary War patriot and successful printer and publisher, the society is a research library documenting the lives of Americans from the colonial era through 1876. The society collects, preserves, and makes available as complete a record as possible of the printed materials from the early American experience. The cookbook collection comprises approximately 1,100 volumes.

The Honeywood Settlement
Author: H.B. Creswell
Publisher: Chicago Review Press
Release Date: 2007-11-01
ISBN 10: 0897336623
Pages: 232 pages

The Honeywood Settlement Book Summary : A sequel to The Honeywood File (originally published in 1929, and reissued by Academy Chicago in 2000), it takes the form of an epistolary novel. Some of the great comic characters inhabit the pages of this book, and like all comedy, they contain more than a grain of truth. The book tells, in the form of letters gleaned from an architect's files, the excitments and and disasters of designing and building a large country house, with the painful aftermath of clearing up the defects and haggling over the bill. What makes this book so enjoyable and instructive is the clever interplay of all the diverse characters in the drama, and the author's sagacious and witty running commentary on their performance. The main protagonists are the hapless young architect James Spinlove; Sir Leslie Brash, his peppery and pompous client; the honest John Grigblay, the builder whose down-to-earth common sense gets the job done despite difficulties. Plus a cast of glorious inventions as Hoochcraft, Potch, Nibnose & Rasper, and Beddy & Tinge, quantity surveyors.

One Hundred Doses
Author: Teddy Jones,Sue Jane Sullivan
Publisher: Sunstone Press
Release Date: 2012-01-15
ISBN 10: 1611390591
Pages: 304 pages

One Hundred Doses Book Summary : Farm and ranch women are the heart of an important American institution, agriculture. Their strength is a critical resource for their families and communities. This book offers those women their own special prescription for health and well-being in one hundred small doses. Some “capsules” remind of care to be taken daily, some to be taken regularly, others to take as needed, several to give to family and friends and still more to apply to the community. Reading this book won’t make you immediately “feel good” like a warm beverage or a serving of your mother’s best meal. It won’t always bring a tear of nostalgia to the eye or a longing for the good old days. But like a good tonic, these capsules of advice and encouragement will stimulate you. You’ll find essays that will boost your morale. Others will prompt you to be grateful. Several instruct about health matters. And some will even make you laugh. There’s no better prescription than that, is there? TEDDY JONES, R.N., Ph.D., is a Family Nurse Practitioner. Before she and her husband began farming his family’s land near Friona, Texas, she was a Professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing, in Lubbock, Texas. Growing up in a rural town in central North Texas, she spent lots of happy times with cousins on their families’ wheat and dairy farms. Those experiences and her admiration for those who farm and ranch prompted her to develop and teach elective courses in Rural Health Nursing. That same interest spurred her to develop the concept for her health promotion column, “In The Middle Of It All,” which appears monthly in “The Farmer Stockman.” She practices part-time as a Nurse Practitioner in New Mexico and writes when she’s not helping with the farm work. SUE JANE SULLIVAN, B.S.Ed., teaches in the only school in the only town in Borden County, Texas. That rural school is not far from the area where she grew up, surrounded by ranches, farms and oil wells. Like most people in farming and ranching areas, she can and does fill many roles. She teaches English, Spanish, history and government and coaches Interscholastic League literary events including debate, journalism, and spelling. She’s a free-lance newspaper writer and her newsletter, “A New Song,” is a regular source of encouragement for the special group of friends for whom she publishes it. A major inspiration for her work is her maternal grandmother who was widowed at 41, during the Great Depression. She managed to keep and operate the family farm and raise five children long before the term single parent was invented.

Real Alternatives, Leibniz’s Metaphysics of Choice
Author: R.O. Savage
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
Release Date: 2012-12-06
ISBN 10: 9401149682
Pages: 198 pages

Real Alternatives, Leibniz’s Metaphysics of Choice Book Summary : In the `Preliminary Dissertation' of his Theodicy, Leibniz declares himself an apologist for the compatibilist doctrines of original sin, election and reprobation propounded by the theologians of the Augsburg Confession. According to those theologians, man's actions are determined but man retains the power to act otherwise and therefore is responsible for his actions. Savage argues that Leibniz, in formulating his apology, availed himself of both his doctrine of possible worlds and his finite-infinite analysis distinction (the latter being applied within the former). Savage challenges the dogma that Leibniz's metaphysical principles entail that individuals are powerless to act otherwise and that God cannot conceive of them acting otherwise. He argues that interpreters deduce the dogma from those principles with the aid of dubious extra-textual premises, for example, that a Leibnizian individual has only one complete concept or cannot be persons other than the person it actually is.
